The cooperative teacher: contributions for the proposal of public policy

In the context of basic education public policies, the article discusses the role of the cooperative teacher at school, from the perspective of improving the quality of education. Based on research about this professional activity, the aim is to identify who is this professional and also to analyze the work he accomplishes in schools located in different regions of Brazil, pointing up possibilities and limitations that this position present. The text aims to demonstrate that the cooperative teacher plays a key role in the management of school processes, especially in teachers' professional development. As a background, it is shown his working conditions, focusing on his training and assignments. The results of this article can contribute to the formulation of public policies enabling cooperative teachers to be present in all Brazilian schools, carrying out functions of liaison and training, as well as those with a potential to transform the school setting, something already provided by law in many states and municipalities.
