Emotional Work and Meanings of the Feminine in Contemporary Entrepreneurship

Abstract

This article discusses entrepreneurial activity by middle class women who turn to an intermediary organization associated with a large tech company. It reflects on how the emotional work and forms of social presentation are mobilized in this organization. Supported by ethnographic observations and interviews, the article reveals how emotions, work, “extra-work” and meanings attributed to the feminine connect in contemporary entrepreneurship.
