Sexual violence against children in the press: gender and generation

The aim of this paper is to show what has been published on child sexual violence by O Estado de S.Paulo, a well-sold Brazilian daily newspaper. The research covered the 20th century and the many forms of sexual violence: incest, crimes committed by strangers, honour crimes, prostitution, child pornography and paedophilia. The data will be presented in two parts: the first one covering the beginning of the century and the second one the last decades. On doing this, I focus on how sexual crimes were reported and, also, on the social sensibility that can be drawn from the news. The main changes on how the newspaper talks about sexual violence are analyzed in the conclusion.
