Effect of cutting and nitrogen application on grain production from the regrowth of soybean plants

An experiment was installed at the Federal University of Lavras (UFLA), in Lavras - Minas Gerais to verify the effect of preplanting and post-emergence application of nitrogen on soybean. This experiment was conducted in a dusky red latossol with a clayey texture, using a split plot experimental design in randomized blocks with three replications. The factor cutting was arranged in the main plots and the factorial scheme of three cultivars with different nitrogen application were arranged in the subplots. Cultivars Cristalina and IAC-8 showed the best yields of fresh matter, dry malter and hay. A reduction in grain yield, lodging index and plant height was observed for soybean submitted to cuttings. The cultivar Cristalina showed better plant regrowth after cutting, yields of protein and straw were higher than plants without cutting. The same effect was observed by the cultivar IAC-8 for total protein yield. The application of nitrogen before planting and/or sixty days after emergence did not affect significantly the analised characteristics.
