ENVIRONMENTAL MODIFICATIONS ON YOLK CHARACTERISTICS AND SCOURED WOOL COLOUR (X-Z) AMONG FLEECE REGIONS

SUMMARY Wool samples from four fleece regions (back, shoulder, britch and mid-side) were analysed in the suint and wax percents, suint qualities (pH, colour and absorbancy) and brightness and scoured wool colour characteristics. The hogget ewes were mantained, firstly, on environmental conditions (outdoors conditions) (time = before) and after growing on indoors conditions (time = after). The fleece regions recorded differences among them, on time before, as well as time after, the back samples showed higher wax percent (P < 0.08) compared with shoulder region, but the suint percent did not differe between them. The suint pH was significantly less alcalin (P < 0.001) on the back while the animais were mantained on field conditions. The scoured wool colour (Y-Z) differed again between the shoulder (more yellow) and back (whitter), the mid-side and britch regions showed intermedite colours. There wasn't wax loss in field conditions; the suint production differed between the times, however, it was observed that the back's suint percents were smaller than the other regions even on indoors conditions.
