GRAIN YIELD, HARVEST INDEX AND YIELD COMPONENTS OF THREE IRRIGATED RICE VARIETIES

SUMMARY The experiment was conducted on an ALBAQUALF soil of the "Vacacaí" mapping unit located on the Campus of the "Universidade Federal de Santa Maria-RS", during the 1986/87 growing season. The objective was to relate grain yield, yield components and harvest index of three irrigated rice varieties (EEA 406, BLUEBELLE and BR-IRGA 409), with different morphological traits related to yield potential. The experimental design was a randomized block with five replications. The treatments were the three varieties. The BR-IRGA 409 and EEA 406 had the highest grain yield. BLUEBELLE showed lower grain yield, did not differ significant from EEA 406. For the three varieties harvest index and grain yield no were related. The results of yield components did not describe adequatelly the grain yield of varieties, being related to sampling errors, due mainly to sample size used.
