EQUINE ANESTHESIA WITH DETOMIOINE AND TILETAMINE-ZOLAZEPAM

SUMMARY Six horses were intravenous anesthetized with 1% detomidine hydrocloride (0.03mg/kg) and the association 5% tiletamine-zolazepam (1mg/kg). The time to get lateral recumbency, time in lateral recumbency and time to stand position were recorded. Heart and respiratory rate, rectal temperature, arterial pH, PCO2 PO2, HCO3, SATO2 and base excess were measured before sedation, during anesthetic procedure and after the horses to be in the stand position. Two horses were submitted to surgical procedures. The mean time to get lateral recumbency was 53.80 ± 9.06 seconds. The mean time in lateral recumbency was 28.50 ± 5.05 minutes and the mean time to stand was 39.16 ± 4.59 minutes. Arterial hemogasometric analysis demonstrated hypoxemia while cardiorespiratory rates and rectal temperature remained stable.
