Flow cytometry methodology and application in the veterinary hematology

Flow cytometry is an emergent method in veterinary medicine which provides the identification and quantification of the suspension cells. However the high costs and the trained technical specialist required the flow cytometry has a wide variety of applications in the veterinary hematology including hematopoietic stem cells erythrocyte, leukocyte and platelet evaluation. The important clinical application of the flow cytometry is the CD34+ quantification to hematopoietic reconstitution after stem cell transplant and lymphocyte subsets to evaluate the immune reply to tissue or organ transplant and animals diseases. Scientific assays about flow cytometry evaluation of the stem cell and lymphocyte subsets of dogs have been performed successfully by veterinary hematology scientists in the Universidade Estadual Paulista (UNESP), Campus Jaboticabal. Then, in the future, it would become a usual technique in the veterinarian’s laboratories in the Brazil.
