INGUINAL HERNIA IN 26 DOGS

During a ten-year period from January 1983 to December 1993, 26 dogs with inguinal hernia were submitted to the Veterinary Teaching Hospital (VTH), Universidade Federal de Santa Maria, RS, Brazil. The patients records were reviewed from the Statistical Service for details of anamnesis, physical examination, etiology, surgical technique and post surgical evaluation. The herniation prevalence in small animais was 3.97% in this period at VTH and 11.17% of them were inguinal hernia. Acquired inguinal hernia were more common in no spayed bitches. Uterine horn and related structures were the most common hernial contents. Complications or recurrence were unnoticed in post surgical period.
