Adolescent pregnancy and paternal co-responsibility: socio-demographic background and attitudes towards the pregnancy and the child

The objective was analyze partner-demographic changes and attitudes of the co-responsible ones for the adolescents’ pregnancy, in the occasions of the pregnancy and of the interview. A sectional study, aleatory sampling for conglomerate, with 438 interviews accomplished with adolescents and adult young, that were mothers in the adolescence and they frequented the Basic Units of Health (BHU) of Feira de Santana, from August to December of 2001. For the statistical analysis, the qui-square (x2) and Prevalence Reason were realized with significance at 5%. Among the occasions of the pregnancy and of the interview, significant changes were verified (p <0,05): 57% studied the fundamental, decreasing to 32.8%; expressive increase of the ones that they stopped studying, of 6.4% (28) for 25.6% (111); decrease of the single proportions of 71.4% for 12.3% and increase of the married ones, of 23.8% for 66.3%. In the occasions of the pregnancy and of the interview, respectively, more than 80% worked and 30% with low income. About 80% of the men accepted the gestation and they registered the child, and about 12% proposed abortion and it was highest between the adolescents’ age. It was verified significant changes in the education and matrimonial situation of the co-responsible ones, and they presented positive attitudes due to the gestation and of civil certificate of the child.
