DO LIVRO PARA O PALCO E VICE-VERSA: SOBRE UMA TRADUÇÃO BRASILEIRA DE IWONA, KSIĘŻNICZKA BURGUNDA (IVONE, PRINCESA DA BORGONHA), DE WITOLD GOMBROWICZ

Abstract

In view of the publishing project of my translation of Iwona, księżniczka Burgunda (Ivone, Princess of Burgundy), by Witold Gombrowicz – made for the first Brazilian staging of the play, in 2003 –, I revisit my undertaking and re-examine the translation process, its motivations and premises, its problems and results. Redirected from the space of the stage to the domain of literature, confronted with a new moment in the reception of Gombrowicz in our country, the translation carried out years ago gives rise to a series of questions: do the guidelines of the translation work (still) prove to be adequate? Do the solutions adopted, concerning text and paratexts, (still) seem satisfactory? How so?
