The technical, methodological and analytical work with audiovisual interactional data: the availability of multimodal resources in interactions

ABSTRACT

Based on a collection of audiovisual data from diverse situations involving complex interactional and material ecology, this paper discusses the technical, methodological, theoretical, and epistemological questions that emerge when working with video for the purposes of linguistic-interactional and multimodal analyses, among which: forms of documentation; software use; audiovisual data transcription and representation practices; distinction between description and transcription of body movements. Fundamented in knowledge produced in the field of video analysis, the paper presents the results of the decision-making on research procedures that has enabled us to attain matters of transcription, representation, and publicization of multimodal resources demonstrated to be relevant for the participants of the interactions analyzed.
