In this article we approach the labovian sociolinguistics interview as a discursive practice. Guided by the French branch of Discourse Analysis theoretical perspective, we investigate meanings which are built from the relationship between specific "places": that of the interviewer and that of the interviewee. We focus on a linguistic item in the former's discourse - então - to analyze the part played by that item on subjectivity construction process. We conclude that the interviewer, when occupying the researcher position, becomes agent of meaning actualization and meaning displacement in sociolinguistics interviews, and that então is a linguistic mark of researcher position.
