The article examines a few psychosociological aspects of nationalism in terms of collective identity and their relationship with the general problem of equality. The "official" Brazilian nationalism from last century and the "Dependence theory" are objects of a brief critical analysis in the light of the new global economic dynamics. Also, the national spirit and the longings for a pluralist ideal are confronted.
