THIS paper explores the theme from a more psycho-sociological view point, trying to avoid a moralistic approach to the polemic question of the real meaning of this movement in the brazilian Catholic Church to-day and in the future. The article is divided in two main topics. In the first are presented some important informations about the origin, development and present situation of the RCC. In the second and more analytical point, he tries a brief analysis of this movement, discussing the main functions of a catholic spiritual movement in modern society and culture, with emphasis in the formation of a christian-catholic personal and collective identity. The main dilemma of RCC seems to be how to conciliate its strong accent on subjectivity with the social responsabilty of catholics in Brazil to-day.
