The pregnancy in adolescence on the perception of doctors and nurses from a primary care

Qualitative descriptive research, aiming at getting familiar with the biopsychosocial changes of pregnant adolescents and the perception of doctors and nurses on the performance of health teams supervising pregnancy in adolescence. Data was collected through interviews with doctors and nurses from a Primary Care Health Unit, between August and October 2010. This was classified, organized and analyzed using the Content Analysis method proposed by Minayo following three steps: sorting, classifying and analyzing data. After a thorough reading of the discourse data the register units or topics were selected. These were then grouped according to the convergence of ideas giving rise to the following categories: perception of pregnancy in teenage years, changes in the process of living and being a teenager, professionals and the pregnant teenager. Professionals emphasize the importance of listening, full-time personal attention specific to this clientele, and the need for training in this. The study expands the production of knowledge and may contribute to changes in health practice. The study extends the knowledge on the subject and provides grants for professionals to rethink their practice of health, contributing to assume a respectful attitude and personalized attention to adolescence pregnancy.
