Beyond the mud and the waste: schooling movements in San Pedro, Victoria/ES (1977-2007)

This paper discusses the historical process of schooling in childhood in the neighborhood of San Pedro I, in Victoria, E.S. It looks at the constitutional movement of the 1970s in the (E.S.) region. As its focal point, it takes "CMEI da Amizade", an institution that follows the first reference to educational space. It has as a privileged source, the accounts of residents of the neighborhood. These subjects' accounts, are expressed in two books on the region's constitutional movement, one written by a resident, and another, a work produced by researchers, residents and the local government of Victoria. It also highlights the narratives of a cook and a general services assistant, professionals of the institution being investigated. The sources are analyzed as witness accounts providing remnants of knowledge and therefore comparative data. What it seeks to understand are the "practical strategies" and "tactics" employed by the subjects in these popular movements: the housing organizations; the educational institutions; to reflect on these experiences to assist those that remain in CMEI teaching children currently.
