CHILDHOOD, PLAYING AND TOYING: REFLECTIONS FROM NORBERT ELIAS’ THEORETICAL REFERENCE

ABSTRACT:

The childhood phase is an essential period to people’s lives, not only for the physical and cognitive development but also to the socio-cultural development. However, despite the recognition of this important stage of human development, social studies about this subject have not been explored with intensity in academic literature. Starting from this scenario and acknowledging the need for further studies on this subject in the educational field, this paper aims to contextualize the role of childhood and its activities, such as to play and to toy in the context of the civilizing process.
