AROUND THE DIFFERENCE: A CONFRONTATION BETWEEN ADORNO AND DELEUZE

ABSTRACT:

In the field of philosophy of education, there are two important and radically different approach possibilities of difference as theme. One is the thought of Adorno, thinking the difference from the point of view of negative dialectics, implying an internal critique of the reason structures. This criticism aims to induce self-reflection process on the corrosive elements of rationality, which increase regression to barbarism. Another is the thought of Deleuze, which assumes an external criticism of the reason, in particular to the universalist claims of identity. This article aims to compare and discuss the two criticism, and point out the risks and irrationalist tendencies of Deleuze’s criticism on fundamental concepts of Western philosophy.
