TEACHING, INTELLECTUAL EXPERIENCE, EDUCATION: THEODOR W. ADORNO AS PROFESSOR

ABSTRACT:

The work of Theodor W. Adorno can be read as a search for social transformation, which requires the critical thinking. In this sense, education may be an effort to overcome pseudo-culture and the limits of intellectual and aesthetic experience enthroned by culture industry. Education must be engaged in the political necessity of non-repetition of barbarism, in the struggle against totalitarianism and social domination. Considering that education in Adorno’s work requires thinking seriously about the task of the teachers, this paper analyzes the teaching practice as political praxis in some of Adorno’s seminars. It will be possible to observe how Adorno performed his philosophy not only in his writings and speeches, but also in his teaching practice. In his Lessons, the philosophical exercise and the analysis and application of the concepts have shown themselves as important as the discussion of ideas, when form and content became inseparable.
