Reflections on roças in São Tomé and Príncipe

The article shows some elements of the history of Sao Tome and Principe, the second smallest country in Africa, that has Portuguese as its official language. Several readings and collected data helped to write the text, that defines and contextualizes the universe of colonial plantation system built in the two islands and points the social and political choices made on the basis of this system throughout their history.
