Abstract
This article is intended to situate Tentativas de Mitologia (1979) by Sérgio Buarque de Holanda as a central piece in the author's self-writing, a kind of intellectual autobiography. An anthology of old texts of literary and historiographic criticism, introduced by a self-understanding essay, Tentativas de Mitologia brought the author the recognition of his trajectory with important awards in 1980. To ensure this interpretation, I take into consideration, besides the preface, the content of the anthology, the unity of the volume and the meanings inscribed in the reception and the awards given to the book, which is seen as a remembrance and celebration of an entire work collection.
