Abstract
This essay examines the book Eu sou macuxi e outras histórias by Julie Dorrico as self-history of survival inserted into current literary studies of indigenous peoples which grew between the 1980s and 1990s, allowed by the indigenous resistance that confronted the power of the Brazilian State, more assiduously since the 1970s. Dorrico's fiction is also considered within the scope of both the production of strong current indigenous intellectual and philosophical traditions, progressively more visible, present, and empowered, as well as her own articles as a researcher and Ph.D. in literary theory. The essay shows that the poetic narrative of her book touches on political-cultural issues linked to the fields of Brazilian cultural and literary production, as well as demonstrates affinity with theoretical methodologies of indigenous research in the American territory as a whole. It shows that Dorrico's intellectual work is inseparable from the practice of political resistance and, therefore, culturally and socially vital for all American native peoples.
