Use of indicators for situational diagnosis of Higher Education Institutions

Abstract

The text emphasizes the use of educational indicators as a way to obtain a diagnosis of Higher Education Institutions. To do so, illustrates the use of three international indicators (Scimago Institutions Ranking – SIR; QS World University Rankings - QS WUR; World University Ranking Web) that provide relevant information about scientific research, intellectual production, international collaboration, institutional reputation, teaching profile, web impact of intellectual productions, among others, thus providing a diagnosis of Higher Education Institution (HEI). The main results of the study carried out in brazilian HEI, between 2011 and 2015, indicate: increased scientific production of researchers (SIR indicator) and intellectual production of excellence (WEB indicator); increased institutional visibility through the Internet (WEB indicator) and institutional academic reputation (QS-WUR indicator); decreased international collaboration among research groups (SIR indicator) and proportion of foreign teachers (QS-WUR indicator).
