Socioscientific Issues in Science Teaching: some characteristics of Brazilian researches

Abstract:

In this paper, we analyzed the understanding presented in Brazilian researches in Science Education about Socioscientific Issues. Therefore, a study was conducted in the Proceedings of the Encontro Nacional de Pesquisa em Educação em Ciências (ENPEC), from 1997 to 2013. Throughout Discursive Textual Analysis the categories were organized: Thematic Focus and nature of work; Understanding of Socioscientific Issues; Socioscientific Issues, STS approach and development of argumentation; Planning and implementation of proposals focused on Socioscientific Issues. Among the results, it is emphasized the need to broaden the discussions about the role of Socioscientific Issues in Science Education, allowing to clarify whether these are a didactic-pedagogical resource, object of learning or curriculum organizer element. In addition, there is need for greater systematizations about the characteristics of these issues, their relationships with other benchmarks and selection criteria.
