INVESTIGATIVE ACTIVITIES IN SCIENCE TEACHING: HISTORICAL ASPECTS AND DIFFERENT APPROACHES

This paper presents a historical discussion about the use of investigative activities in science teaching, and the different approaches of this teaching methodology according to several authors. The inquiry activities have distinct denominations in the literature: inquiry, teaching through investigation, teaching through projects, among others. The authors agree that this teaching approach allows students to develop several cognitive skills and understand the nature of science, in addition to learning concepts and procedures. The paper highlights the aspects discussed by several authors when addressing investigative activities, and also the non-conclusive character of the approach.
