Application of differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) in the thermal characterization of dexamethasone acetate, excipients and dexamethasone cream

Differencial scanning calorimetry (DSC) technique have been used to characterize the dexamethasone acetate (active component), cetyl alcohol, emulgin, polawax and nipagim-M (excipents). The active component have also been investigated by TG, DTG and ultraviolet and visible absorption spectra (UV-VIS). The results permitted us to verify the thermal stability and melting point of the active component, as well as the melting point of the excipients used to produce the dexamethasone cream.
