The aesthetic education of workers in the pages of Il Grido del Popolo magazine (Piemonte, Itália, 1892-1905)

ABSTRACT

The focus of the article are the different perspectives for the aesthetic education of the Piemonte’s workers between the end of the 19th Century and the beginning of 20th Century. The privileged source was part of the series of the weekly socialist Il Grido del Popolo, published by typographers these Italian region. In the ideary there expressed, aesthetic education was one of the fundamentals of the “moral and intellectual reform” of workers. This activities in relation to claimed school dimension, but mainly in broad set of social education possibilities, such as theater, literature, popular university, music among others cultural practices. The maxima of moral and intellectual elevation considered the aesthetic education since the masterpiece knowledge of great authors of music, literature, theater, but also stimulated to artistic production of the workers. In that scope of concern the access to culture and cultural production were not only a politics fight, but recognizing culture as common heritage, therefore everybody’s right, contradicting the common sense that considered culture and the art would be a prerogative of dominators classes in the period.
