COLEOPTERA ASSOCIATED WITH Eucalyptus PLANTATION IN NOVA ERA DISTRICT, STATE OF MINAS GERAIS, BRAZIL

ABSTRACT

Population dynamics of Coleoptera species was studied in an Eucalyptus grandis plantation in Nova Era district, State of Minas Gerais, Brazil. Five light traps were used each two weeks, from August, 1994 to July, 1995. The insects collected were identified based on the literature and entomological collections by species or family. A total of 2,449 insects was collected being Epicauta sp. (Meloidae), Colaspis sp.2 (Chrysomelidae) and Oxycheila tristes (Cicindelidae), the most abundant species, with respectively 40, 37 and 20 insects, which represented 10.75%, 9.95% and 5.38% of the insects identified by species. Melolonthidae, Carabidae and Chrysomelidae showed highest numbers of insects and species with 37.02%, 36.46% and 5.68% of the insects identified by family, respectively. Coleoptera insects were collected during all sampling period but higher number of population peaks of these species were registered between September and January.
