Surface Evaluation of Micropholis venulosa Decorativeveneers

ABSTRACT

This study aimed to evaluate the roughness and the wettability of Curupixá (Micropholis venulosa) veneers surface before and after manual sanding and application of sealer. The roughness was estimated using a profilometer and the wettability with a goniometer. The roughness of the veneers subjected to different levels of abrasive sandpapering (180 and 240) differed from those not sanded. However, the roughness of sanded veneer with abrasive sandpaper number 180 and 240 showed no significant difference among themselves, even after the sealer application. As for the contact angle, the lowest value was found for the veneers sanded with the number of abrasive sandpaper 240 after applying sealer. Thus, sanding along with finish product improved the surface quality of the veneers, resulting in a better quality of the finished product.
