GLUING OF SCARF JOINT WITH WOODS OF Pinus spp. AND Eucalyptus citriodora

ABSTRACT

Scarf joints made of Pinus spp. and Eucalyptus citriodora woods, with different inclinations and built under different gluing pressures, had their strength tested under bending. The effect of gluing pressure in the strength of the joint was not verified, but the inclinations affected the strength of the joint of the two species. A relative strength of 80% was acceptable. In pine, even inclinations lower and equal than 1:10 gave satisfactory results. In E. citriodora, only the 1:12 inclination could be considered good. A tendency toward higher strength with increasing pressure was found for pine.
