Physiotherapy intervention in subacromial impingement syndrome

INTRODUCTION: The shoulder problems are responsible for about 10% of all referrals to physiotherapists, being the subacromial impingement syndrome the most common diagnosis of pathologies of the shoulder, accounting for 44-65%. However, the effectiveness of physiotherapy in this disease remains a topic of discussion. OBJECTIVE: To determine the effectiveness of physiotherapy treatment in patients with subacromial impingement syndrome (SIS). Methodology: Research on computerized databases on PubMed/Medline, B-on, SciELO and PEDro to identify randomized controlled trials that evaluates various physiotherapy interventions in SIS. RESULTS: This review included ten studies involving 823 patients, with arithmetic mean methodology classification of 7.1 on the PEDro scale. From the studies included in this review, nine evaluated the physiotherapy with manual techniques and therapeutic exercises application and three take into account applying physical agents. CONCLUSIONS: The evidence found in this systematic review suggest that physiotherapy plays a fundamental role in the treatment of SIS, namely through the use of manual therapy and therapeutic exercises. The use of physical agents shows some improvements. From the research carried, we suggest the relevance of new research about physiotherapy treatments with long-term effects.
