Waste: other memories of / in the city

Abstract

The understanding about garbage itself has been questioned in many fields of knowledge. This study aims to examine how the city materials are transformed in different places, with other senses, to study subjectivity and singularity that there are – or could be – forged. Two places were selected: one installed in Florianópolis, SC, Brazil, and another in São Francisco do Sul, SC, Brazil. The former is an area about habits and consumption with clear pedagogical intentions, while the second brings the affections of a family moved to create new relations with objects dumped on streets. Experiences that produce memories beyond the hegemonic values; those rebellious and diverse, which may contribute with questions about the way of preserving and building assets, which may call the senses confiscated by institutionalized practices.
