Resumo Este artigo discute os conceitos de sensibilidade performativa e corpo inteligente (smartbody). A tese central é que a sensibilidade performativa destaca a natureza instrumental das sensações em que os objetos atuam no mundo. Mostramos como as prescrições desta nova sensibilidade associada aos wearables afetam o corpo e a subjetividade no que propomos chamar de smartbody. Foram analisados cem depoimentos no fórum da comunidade de usuários da Fitbit. As ferramentas quantitativas e a teoria ator-rede foram usadas como guia para reunir e analisar o corpus. Os resultados preliminares mostram que os usuários do Fitbit demonstram mudanças particulares no cuidado do corpo. Os comportamentos extremos, os limites físicos definidos pelos objetivos do sistema e os hábitos de quantificação sem usar o dispositivo são alguns dos exemplos encontrados. Essas descobertas parecem indicar que a sensibilidade performativa dos wearables mobiliza novos padrões performáticos do corpo e novas práticas orientadas por dados.

Abstract This paper discusses the concepts of performative sensibility and smartbody. The central thesis is that performative sensibility highlights the instrumental nature of sensations in which objects act on the world. We show how the prescriptions of this new sensibility associated with wearables affect the body and subjectivity that we propose to call a smartbody. There were one hundred testimonials analyzed from the oldest thread with the greatest number of comments in the Fitbit user community forum. Quantitative tools and actor-network theory were used as a guide to assemble and analyze the corpus. The preliminary findings show that Fitbit users demonstrate particular changings in body care. Extreme behaviors, physical limits defined by system goals and quantification habits without utilizing the device are some of the examples found. These findings appear to indicate that the performative sensibility of wearables mobilizes new body performatic patterns and practices oriented by data.

Resumen En este artículo se desea mostrar cómo la alegoría y el símbolo, en el marco del cine barroco y moderno, no son mecanismos ornamentales, sino una forma de invención semántica capaz de cuestionar la gramaticalización del lenguaje cinematográfico. No se busca hacer un análisis historiográfico de un determinado periodo del cine, sino mostrar que dichas figuras son capaces de producir sentido, sin negar su rol funcional, gracias a su uso poético. Através de un estudio de caso, de corte cualitativo (que se deriva de una investigación sobre Retórica del cine), se presenta una exegesis de sus dinámicas en cuatro filmes emblemáticos: El ciudadano Kane, Cantando bajo la lluvia, Deseo en una mañana de verano y Pierrot el loco (los dos primeras, barrocos; los dos segundos modernos).

Abstract Rhetorical strategies, amplification of meaning The scope of this paper is to show how allegory and symbol, in the framework of the baroque and modern cinema, are not ornamental mechanisms, but a form of semantic invention capable of questioning the grammaticalization of the cinematographic language. We don’t intend to make a historiographic analysis of a certain period of the cinema, but to show how these figures are capable of producing meaning, without denying their functional role, thanks to their poetic use. Through a qualitative case study (derived from a research on film rhetoric) we present an exegesis of their dynamics in four emblematic films: Citizen Kane Singing in the Rain, Wish on a Summer Morning and Pierrot the Madman (the first two, baroque; the second two: modern).

Resumo Este artigo propõe uma reflexão acerca de como os filmes-diário de Jonas Mekas contribuíram para um entendimento mais amplo da autorrepresentação dentro do âmbito cinematográfico. O trabalho parte do pressuposto de que, ao procurar diferentes formas para lidar com a construção do tempo na sua obra, Mekas trouxe novas perspectivas para as narrativas em primeira pessoa.

Abstract This paper proposes a reflection on how the diary films of Jonas Mekas contributed to a broader understanding of the self-representation of the field within the cinematic scope. The work assumes that by searching for different ways to deal with the construction of time in his work, Mekas brought new perspectives to think the first-person narratives.

Resumo Esta pesquisa empírica pretende investigar as características da conversação e da discussão política no Twitter durante o último debate presidencial televisionado no primeiro turno da eleições de 2014. A experiência televisiva, a participação política e a dinâmica do Twitter foram consideradas para o exame de diferentes tipos de engajamento em 100 mil mensagens coletadas durante o debate. O objetivo foi identificar picos de engajamento de uso, conectando esses momentos específicos e avaliando como as características do ambiente comunicacional podem ter afetado os discursos construídos ao redor do debate.

Abstract This empirical study aims to investigate the characteristics of the conversation and political discussion on Twitter during the last televised presidential debate in the first round of the Brazilian elections in 2014. Television experience, political participation, and Twitter dynamics were considered for the examination of different kinds of engagement in 100,000 messages collected during the debate. The aim was to identify peaks of user engagement, linking these specific moments and evaluating how the characteristics of the communicative environment may have affected the discourses built around the debate.

Resumo Estabeleço um diagnóstico sobre o estado da arte das teorias da fotografia, em vista dos sintomas de uma “interrupção” de seus discursos, no limite entre duas balizas que o orientaram, desde os anos 1980, a saber: a ênfase nos dispositivos técnicos de visualização e seu corolário semiótico de indexicalidade. A partir dos discursos teóricos da história e da crítica da arte e da força instauradora da obra de fotógrafos-artistas, construo um contradiscurso à dominância do dispositivo, situando a aisthésis visual e sua mediação pela história da arte como parâmetros alternativos para realocar uma interrogação genuinamente pragmática e fenomenológica acerca da experiência da imagem fotográfica.

Abstract I diagnose a state of the art in photography theories, in view of the symptoms of an “interruption” of its discourse, in the limit between two beacons that guided it, since the 1980s, namely: the emphasis on technical devices of visualization, and its semiotic corollary of indexicality. From the starting point of theoretical discourses of history and art criticism, and also the instituting force of the work of photographers-artists, I construct a counter-discourse to this dominance of visual devices, situating visual aisthésis (and its mediation by art history) as alternative parameters for reallocating a genuinely pragmatic and phenomenological inquiry about the experience of photographic images.

Resumo O trabalho explora as relações entre os processos de mobilidade transnacional e a construção das subjetividades nas representações dos emigrantes no documentário En tierra extraña (BOLLAÍN, 2014), tendo como metodologia principal uma análise sociocrítica do filme articulada à contextualização da cinematografia espanhola no campo das migrações. Os deslocamentos humanos lidos com base nas imagens fílmicas dos emigrados espanhóis contemporâneos são tensionados na cinematografia espanhola mais recente, sobretudo, na intensificação da percepção social do fenômeno da mobilidade emigrante a partir da crise econômica de 2008, e a experienciação da memória, diáspora e interculturalidade são observadas no filme de Bollaín em relação às narrativas temporais subjacentes aos recentes deslocamentos de espanhóis na Europa.

Abstract The work explores the relationships between the processes of transnational mobility and the construction of subjectivities in migrant representations in the documentary En tierra extraña (Icíar Bollaín, 2014), whose main methodology is a sociocritical analysis of the film articulated to the contextualization of Spanish cinematography in the field of Migrations. The human displacements read from contemporary Spanish emigres’ film images are stressed in the most recent Spanish cinematography, especially in the intensification of the social perception of the phenomenon of emigrant mobility from the economic crisis of 2008, as well as the memory experience, diaspora and interculturality are observed In Bollain’s film in relation to the temporal narratives underlying the recent displacements of Spaniards in Europe.

Resumo A partir do cotejo entre o pensamento de Landowski e de Zilberberg, dois semioticistas que interrogam a regência do sensível na instalação do sentido do mundo, este trabalho discute a emergência de estilos a partir das coerções semânticas e estéticas de duas esferas da comunicação: a midiática e a literária. Para isso, pensamos no corpo do ator da enunciação na relação necessária estabelecida com o ator do enunciado.

Abstract From the comparison between the thought of Landowski and Zilberberg, two semioticians who question the regency of the sensitive in the installation of the meaning of the world, this paper discusses the emergence of styles from the semantic and aesthetic constraints of two spheres of communication: the mediatic and the literary. In order to achieve this, we consider the body of the actor of the enunciation in the necessary relationship established with the actor of the utterance.

Resumo O espaço das manifestações enredadas com aquelas de junho de 2013, no Brasil, foi vivificado por mediadores que dispunham de corpos ciborgues, provisoriamente no sentido de Lemos (2013). A cada vez que gritam os híbridos, somos interpelados a pensar a especificidade do que entendemos como natureza humana. Para Latour (1994), deve-se devolver ao humano a outra metade de si mesmo: a parte das coisas. De que é feito, então, o humano? Máquinas, objetos, política, religião, economia, natureza; numa conversa revolta e nada determinista. Selvagem e inconstante. O corpo do streamer, no âmbito das manifestações afinadas com as jornadas de junho, seria protótipo dessa constituição. O que agencia essa revoada de entidades? Em que medida esse corpo transgride a si próprio em busca do outro que não é o mesmo – embora o seja por natureza?

Abstract The space of manifestations entangled with those of June 2013 in Brazil was enlivened by mediators who had cyborg bodies, provisionally in the sense of Lemos (2013). Each time the hybrids cry, we are asked to think about the specificity of what we understand as human nature. For Latour (1994) one must give back to the human the other half of himself: the part of things. What, then, is the human made of? Machines, objects, politics, religion, economy, nature; in a tumultuous and not at all deterministic conversation. Wild and fickle. The body of the streamer, as part of the protests tuned with the June days, would be a prototype of this constitution. What agencies this flock of entities? To what extent does this body transgress itself in pursuit of the other that is not the same - although it is by nature?

Resumo A partir de estudo exploratório, que tem como corpus 25 horas de programação da rádio BandNews FM do Rio de Janeiro, propõe-se uma nova categorização de fontes jornalísticas. No percurso, discute-se a diferença entre os conceitos de diversidade e pluralidade, considerados basilares para o jornalismo e para a própria noção de democracia, num contexto de crescente precarização das condições de trabalho e da imposição de um perfil multitarefa aos jornalistas de rádio. Os dados expõem uma série de condicionantes na busca do ideal de diversificação das vozes no dial e a prevalência de fontes cada vez mais profissionalizadas.

Abstract From an exploratory study which delimited as a corpus 25 hours of programming of Rio de Janeiro radio station BandNews FM, a new categorization of journalistic sources is proposed. Along the way, we discuss the difference between the concepts of diversity and plurality, considered basilar to journalism and to the very notion of democracy, in a context of increasingly precarious working conditions and the multi-tasking profile imposed to radio journalists. The data expose a series of constraints in the search for the ideal of diversification of voices on the dial and the prevalence of increasingly professional sources.

Resumo Neste artigo, procura-se compreender como se dá a construção discursiva da nova classe média (também chamada de nova classe C) na telenovela I Love Paraisópolis, à luz da semiótica de linha francesa. Para isso, toma-se como corpus o primeiro capítulo dessa produção, exibida pela Rede Globo em 2015. Nela, a personagem principal, Marizete, é moradora da favela de Paraisópolis em São Paulo. Nota-se que, nesse caso, a nova classe C não apenas faz parte, mas protagoniza a trama central. Assim, entende-se que a nova classe média tem seu locus privilegiado na favela/comunidade que intitula a telenovela em questão, da qual se analisam algumas cenas, tendo em vista os níveis narrativo e discursivo do percurso gerativo do sentido, de Greimas. Finalmente, levando em conta o modelo de Landowski (2002), que diz respeito aos modos de relação com a alteridade, procura-se demonstrar como se estabelecem as relações entre cidade e favela, considerando-se também alguns elementos da visualidade. Esse percurso permite compreender, assim, algumas tessituras do social em I Love Paraisópolis, entendendo-se, evidentemente, esse social como um efeito de sentido.

Abstract This paper analyses the discursive construction of Brazil’s new middle class (also called new class C) in the Brazilian telenovela (soap opera) I Love Paraisópolis, applying French semiotics as theoretical reference. Therefore, the first chapter of this telenovela, broadcasted by Rede Globo, in 2015, is taken as corpus. In the story, the main character, Marizete, lives in Paraisópolis favela, in São Paulo. It is noticeable, in this case, that the new class C does not play a peripheral part, but stars the central plot in the script. Thereby, acknowledging that the Brazil’s new middle class has privileged locus in the favela the telenovela is named after, the scenes are analyzed concerning the narrative and discursive levels of the generative path of meaning. Finally, taking into account Landowski’s (2002) model about the modes of relation to the otherness, it is presented how the relations between city and favela are established, also considering some elements of visual language. This pathway, therefore, allows to understand some of the social configurations in I Love Paraisópolis, considering, evidently, this society as an effect of meaning.

Resumo Inspirado pelas formulações de expoentes da teoria estética contemporânea acerca de uma política da imagem, este artigo se propõe a apreender os lugares atribuídos ao espectador quando imerso na tessitura de afetações que caracterizam seu contato com cenas que detêm uma potência sensível de implicação moral. Averiguando criticamente o pressuposto inerente às investidas no âmbito dos Estudos Culturais e de Mídia, de que há uma continuidade entre os conteúdos políticos de certas imagens e sua repercussão na esfera da recepção, será articulada uma defesa da “livre inatividade” do espectador na apreciação estética intensa, concebida como chave de uma redistribuição dos regimes de sensibilidade que configuram a repartição singular dos objetos da experiência comum.

Abstract Inspired by the formulations of contemporary aesthetic theory exponents about image policy, this paper aims to apprehend the places allocated to the spectator when immersed in the fabric of affections that characterize his contact with scenes that hold a significant power of moral implication. Critically inquiring the assumption inherent in the recent developments in the context of Cultural and Media Studies, that there is a continuity between the political content of certain images and their impact on the reception reach, it will be articulated a defense regarding the “free inactivity” of the spectator in intense aesthetic appreciation, conceived as a key to a redistribution of sensibility regimes that shape the singular distribution of the common experience objects.

Resumo Com a implementação da Linha 4-Amarela, várias inovações técnicas e organizacionais foram introduzidas no metrô de São Paulo. Entre elas, destaca-se a automação integral da condução, em que os trens são conduzidos pelo equipamento embarcado sob supervisão de uma sala de controle central. Mostro, no texto, como o ambiente sociotécnico da Linha 4 é afetado por essa inovação e exploro uma de suas consequências mais notáveis: o investimento na vigilância. Por meio de trabalho etnográfico, argumento que os aspectos de monitoramento e pilotagem a distância são enfatizados na operação da linha e exploro as repercussões nos circuitos comunicativos que se constroem no cotidiano das viagens, envolvendo agentes, usuários e máquinas.

Abstract The opening of Line 4-Amarela brought several innovations to the São Paulo subway, at both technological and organizational levels. Among them, the most outstanding is the introduction of fully automated trains, which are operated by the onboard computer under the supervision of a central control room. In this text, I show how this innovation affects the sociotechnical environment of Line 4, and explore one of its most noticeable consequences: the investment on surveillance. Relying on ethnographic work, I argue that the aspects of monitoring procedures and remote piloting are emphasized in the line operation, and explore the consequences for the communicative circuits involving agents, riders, and machines.

Resumo Os processos civilizatórios da América Latina se deram, e ainda se dão, de modos múltiplos, nunca completos e sempre aptos a incorporar textos exógenos. Por isso é necessário indisciplinar as fronteiras dos saberes, para nos relacionarmos com sua diversidade cultural (Martín-Barbero). Isso quer dizer que, no continente, os textos da cultura escapam às categorizações estanques e, quando postos em relação, acabam por intercambiar elementos de uma série cultural para outra (Pinheiro), produzindo alargamentos dialógicos entre suas fronteiras (Lotman). À luz desses conceitos, o artigo retoma experiências artísticas realizadas no Rio de Janeiro nas décadas de 1960 e 1970, por Rubens Gerchman e Antonio Manuel. Algumas obras desses artistas serão abordadas como arranjos expressivos inéditos entre séries culturais – o jornal, as artes plásticas e a paisagem urbano-cultural. Nessas experimentações, não podemos deixar de considerar o contexto da ditadura no Brasil, presente nas obras por meio de poéticas pouco óbvias, relacionadas com o cotidiano anônimo das ruas. Já o jornal impresso será tomado como objeto relacional que, no transbordamento de seus códigos próprios, abre-se para possibilidades de novas conexões e dobras de sistemas sobre outros sistemas – oralidade sobre o texto, da música sobre a poesia, do texto sobre a imagem, das artes gráficas sobre a música etc.

Abstract The civilizatory processes in Latin America have occurred, and still do, in a multitude of forms, never complete as a whole, and always willing to incorporate exogenous texts. Therefore, it is necessary to loosen the disciplinary frontiers of the many knowledges in order for us to relate to the cultural diversity (MartínBarbero). In this sense, in the continent, the texts in-culture don’t and can’t fit the watertight categories and, when brought into comparison with other texts, ultimately exchange elements of a cultural universe to another (Pinheiro), enlarging the dialogic frontiers between them. (Lotman). In the light of those concepts, this article recaptures artistic experiments carried out in Rio de Janeiro in the 1960’s and 1970’s by Rubens Gerchman and Antonio Manuel. Some of the works by these artists are to be approached as unprecedented expressive arrangements between cultural series: The newspaper, arts and the cultural-urban landscape. In these experiments, the context of Brazil’s dictatorship at the time cannot go unmentioned, as it is present in the works through their subtle poetry, related with the anonymity of the everyday life in the streets. As for the newspaper, it shall be taken as a relational object that, in the overflowing of its own set of codes, opens itself to the possibility of new connections and folds of systems over other systems - orality over text, music over poetry, text over image, graphic arts over music, etc.

Resumo Centrando-se na figura do conselheiro real da peça Hamlet, de Shakespeare, o estudo apresenta as variações nas versões de quatro HQs na reelaboração da personagem Polônio: a adaptação de rant e Mandrake (1990), influenciada pela escola de Brandywine; a adaptação da Equipe ast Press (2013), um mangá que demonstra um cuidado com a distribuição das personagens mudas em cena para afirmar uma pesquisa consistente do texto shakespeariano; a adaptação de Vieceli (2011), um mangá que se centra no vestuário para adotar uma atmosfera tecnológico-futurística, e a adaptação de Srbek e Shibao (2013), com foco maior nas posições corpóreas em cena.

Abstract Focusing on the figure of the royal counselor of the play Hamlet by Shakespeare, the study will present changes in versions of four Comics on reworking the character Polonius: the adaptation of Grant and Mandrake (1990), influenced by the school of Brandywine; the adaptation of the East Press Team (2013), a manga that demonstrates an attention on the distribution of the mute characters in scene to assert a consistent search for the Shakespearean text; the adaptation of Vieceli (2011), a manga that focuses on clothing to incorporate a technological-futuristic atmosphere, and the adaptation of Srbek and Shibao (2013), with a greater focus on bodily positions on the scene.

Resumo Na obra de Gilberto Mendes (1922-2016) verifica-se uma prática incessante de interfaces com as linguagens do cinema, da literatura, do teatro, da publicidade, dentre outros. A Polinésia em sua representação hollywoodiana da década de 1930 é tema frequente. Este cenário é construído, com base em elementos presentes no código musical, provenientes da estética vienense. Mendes assimilará essa estética em sua obra. Na década de 1950, eclode a cultura tiki pop e sua paisagem sonora correspondente, representada por Martin Denny. Pretende-se apontar as mutações do paraíso longínquo e o papel da música na sua composição.

Abstract In the work of Gilberto Mendes (1922-2016) there is an incessant practice of interfaces with the languages of cinema, literature, theater, advertising , among others. Polynesia, in its 1930s Hollywood representation is a frequent subject. This scene is constructed, from elements presented in the musical code, coming from Viennese aesthetics. Mendes will assimilate this aesthetic in his own work. In the 1950s, the culture of tiki pop emerges, as well as its soundscape created by Martin Denny. It is intended to point out the distant paradise transformations and the role of music in his composition.

Resumo A presente resenha aponta a relevância do lançamento da obra Cultura do consumo: fundamentos e formas contemporâneas, o primeiro livro no Brasil a investigar a cultura como a principal mercadoria do capitalismo, bem como alguns de seus desdobramentos contemporâneos (o consumo da experiência e o consumo responsável), destacando a amplitude e originalidade do pensamento da autora, anteriormente reconhecido pela magnitude de sua obra O nome da marca – McDonald’s, fetichismo e cultural descartável.

Abstract This review points to the relevance of the book release entitled Culture of consumption: foundations and contemporary forms, the first book in Brazil to investigate culture as the main commodity of capitalism, as well as some of its contemporary developments (consumption of experience and responsible consumption), highlighting the breadth and originality of the author’s thought, previously recognized by the magnitude of her first book The Brand Name - McDonald’s, fetishism and disposable cultural.

Resumo Em Para além do código digital, Carlos Sandano analisa a prática jornalística com base nas transformações provocadas pelas novas tecnologias da informação. Para isso, o autor efetua uma atualização de conceitos como a neutralidade, a objetividade e a autonomia, tendo como base tanto a filosofia da ciência como a teoria do jornalismo e apoiando-se em estudos de casos empíricos. O objetivo é verificar quais os valores (cognitivos, epistemológicos e sociais) estão vinculados ao jornalismo e como esses valores são trabalhados na contemporaneidade. Como parte do mundo digital, interconectado e globalizado, o jornalismo ainda teria um papel social e cognitivo a cumprir, principalmente como articulador de vozes e de visões de mundo distintas, como uma forma de produção de conhecimento que visa o endossamento do espaço público democrático.

Abstract In Para além do código digital, Carlos Sandano analyzes the journalistic practice from the transformations provoked by the new information technologies. For this, the author performs an update on concepts such as neutrality, objectivity and autonomy, based on the philosophy of science and the theory of journalism, supported by empirical case studies. The objective is to verify which values (cognitive, epistemological and social) are linked to journalism and how these values work in the contemporaneity. As part of the digital, interconnected and globalized world, journalism would still have a social and cognitive role to fulfill, mainly as an articulator of distinct voices and worldviews, as a form for the production of knowledge that aims the endorsement of a democratic public space.

Resumo O livro organizado por Simone Pereira de Sá, Beatriz Polivanov e Simone Evangelista apresenta uma reunião de textos que celebra os dez anos de existência do Laboratório de Pesquisa em Culturas e Tecnologias da Comunicação da Universidade Federal Fluminense (LabCult/UFF) e compartilha com seus leitores a pluralidade de objetos e saberes que circunscrevem o grupo, atentando sempre para o viés comunicacional do campo musical e sonoro em interação com as dinâmicas sociais.

Abstract The book organized by Simone Pereira de Sá, Beatriz Polivanov and Simone Evangelista presents a reunion of texts that celebrates the ten years of existence of the Research Laboratory of Cultures and Communication Technologies from Fluminense Federal University (LabCult / UFF) and shares with its readers the plurality of objects and knowledge that circumscribe the group, always attentive to the communication bias of the musical and sound fields in interaction with social dynamics.

Resumo Como processos comunicativos alcançam maior efetividade comunicacional? Ambientes multicódigos promovem vínculos linguagem/tecnologia e vínculos linguagem/tecnologia promovem transformações cognitivas. Logo, ambientes multicódigos promovem transformações cognitivas (pensamento mutante). Inspirada nesse raciocínio, a pesquisa sobre ambientes multicódigos mostra que a efetividade comunicacional nasce da tomada de consciência estimulada por mudanças de hábitos, mediante práticas que se utilizam das redes digitais multicódigos. O livro aborda como objeto empírico grupos de ciberativistas, usuários de videojogos e epistemólogos da comunicação. Os resultados apontam para outra hipótese acerca do novo objeto epistemológico da comunicologia: o processo de produção de referências aderentes à dinâmica do real, conduzindo os agentes nela imersos a reabituações do entendimento em seu sentir/agir/pensar. O objetivo é destacar as contribuições da semiótica pragmaticista de Charles S. Peirce como saída para a crise epistemológica da comunicação, sugerindo preciosas abduções e analogias com os atuais desenvolvimentos da biossemiótica.

Multicode environments promote language/technology binds, and binds of language/technology promote cognitive changes; thus, showing that multicode environments promote cognitive changes (mutant thinking). Inspired by that reasoning, the research on multicode environments shows that the communicational effectiveness is born from consciousness-taking stimulated by changes of habit using multicode digital networks. It approaches as its empirical object those groups of cyberactivists, video game players, and epistemologists of communication. The outcomes point out to another hypothesis about the new epistemological object of communicology: the production process of references linked to the dynamics of the real addressing the agents herein encompassed to habit-changings of understanding in their own way of feeling/acting/thinking. The aim is to draw the contributions of Charles S. Peirce’s pragmaticist semiotics as an output of the communication’s epistemological crisis by suggesting important abductions and analogies with the today’s developments of biosemiotics.
