Centralization and decentralization of engineering activities: two case studies

This paper studies the organizational structure in multiple unit engineering companies. We studied centralization/decentralization of engineering activities comparing two multinational companies from different sectors. We concluded that the complexity of the product/user interface, the relationship with suppliers, the historical background and the availability of technical expertise are some of the factors which influence the choice of company organization.
