An analysis of the influence of University-Enterprise cooperation on technological innovation

The cooperation between university and enterprise seems to be a promising approach to technology transfer and innovation generation. The main purpose of this paper was to evaluate the influence of this cooperation on the innovative process of small businesses focusing on the antecedents of speed of innovation. An exploratory research was carried out through a case study in a small software company. The results of the analysis of four categories - goals and deadlines, project execution, people, and apropriability and protection -revealed that the greatest barriers to University-Enterprise cooperation are the same factors that had the greatest negative impact on the antecedents of speed of innovation. However, once cooperation has been established, the divergences between the two institutions are minimized due to the strengthening of their relationship, which contributes to speed up the execution of a new technology development project.
