Imigração brasileira no Japão: o mito da volta e a preservação da identidade

Brazilian emigration to Japan is a recent phenomenon. Therefore identity problems of the second generation, socialized in the country of emigration, don't seem yet very urgent. The first generation still believes that they will return to Brazil, and thus the possibility of an identity loss of their children seems far fetched. Nevertheless, there are already two different groups of Brazilian emigrants in Japan that begin to worry about the japanese socialization of their children: Brazilian women married to Japanese and Brazilian families with children in school age. This article analyses two different strategies of Brazilian associations trying to preserve the Brazilian identity by holding on to the Portuguese language: `Grupo Brasil' in Tokyo and the association of Brazilians in the town of Oizume.
