Um pé no reino e outro no mundo: consumo e lazer entre pentecostais

This article assesses how doctrinal elements shape the lives of followers of the Igreja Universal do Reino de Deus, how they interpret and obey religious prescriptions, and their behavior towards consumerism and leisure. It focuses on a theological strand called the Theology of Prosperity and how it allows for the accommodation of a Pentecostal message to a socioeconomic context in which church-goers value savings and investment as strategies prescribed by a consumer ethic. This is made possible by replacing the religion/production notion with that of religion/social reproduction.
