Selection of climbing snap bean lines in Goiás, Brazil

Sixty four snap bean lines derived from the CIAT snap bean breeding program were evaluated in 1994 at Anápolis Experiment Station in Goiás, Brazil, for the following characteristics: adaptation, disease resistance, yield potential and pod quality. The 30 outstanding lines were further evaluated during 1995 in Anápolis and, in 1996, 20 of them were evaluated in Anapális, Morrinhos and Urutai in the State of Goiás, Central Brazil. Final evaluation was carried out in 1997 in Anápolis. The standard cultivar Favorito Ag 480, was used as a check in 1996 and in 1997. Also Preferido Ag 482 cultivar was included as a second check in 1996. Breeding lines Hav 13, Hav 14, Hav 22, Hav 25, Hav 27, Hav 38, Hav 40, Hav 49, Hav 53, Hav 56, Hav 64, Hav 65 and the Hav 67 were chosen, regarding their yield and pod quality, suitable for local market, with possibility to be adopted by growers.
