EDITOR'S LETTER

Dearest,

In our last issue, we stated: "2008 is a special year for all of us working with horticulture in general, and vegetable science in particular", due to the celebrations related to the International Potato Year. Now, we stress it: 2008 is indeed a special year! In our cover we pay homage, by means of some, to all Japanese descendents, who gave a huge contribution to the Brazilian vegetable production chain and to the Brazilian Association of Vegetable Science.

2008 is also a very special year to Horticultura Brasileira. In May 1^st, Thomson Scientific informed us that, from volume 25 (2007) ahead, Horticultura Brasileira started being indexed and abstracted by the Science Citation Index Expanded (SciSearch^®), one of the most important data bases worldwide. From now on, it is possible to recover the knowledge published by means of Horticultura Brasileira using search engines such as the Web of Science^®.

There is more! We were also included in the Journal Citation Reports^®, which is in charge of the most important Impact Factor rank for scientific journals in the world. It means that Horticultura Brasileira now belongs to the elite of the world scientific literature. It is not few! On contrary, this is a significant triumph, whose merit we share with authors, referees, and current and previous editors.

We all bear now the responsibility of reaching an Impact Factor consonant with Horticultura Brasileira quality standard. To get there, let us recall some words stressed in our last Letter of the Editor: in addition to quality, a strong-minded focus of the Editorial Board, we need to publish the papers of international interest in English. At this point, we take the opportunity to greet the authors that scored a record. In this issue, we have seven papers published in English.

We did not forget the electronic submission process. The available options were already evaluated. Horticultura Brasileira will use the system adopted by SciElo. We expect the electronic submission to be fully operational for volume 27 (2009).
