LE LYCÉE AND THE COLLEGIO DE PEDRO II: THE EMPLOYEES AND THE TEACHING SUBJECTS 1802-1838

Abstract

The question that arises from this research is to understand the influence that the French Lycée had on Brazilian secondary education, materialized in the creation of the Collegio de Pedro II in 1837 in Rio de Janeiro, especially in the organization of the institution in its Regulations of 1838. The aim is to understand how the French Lyceu influenced Brazil in two of the aspects of the organization of the Collegio de Pedro II: the employees and the subjects of teaching, in this type of education that prized for the formation of young people who would be the new men of the country. Both France and Brazil had, in the 19th century, the precepts of formation for the elite, taking into consideration the control of the State in the opening of these institutions and in the organization of the programs. The documental and bibliographical research presents itself as a support for the production of the analysis. We based ourselves on the History of Education. We consider that there was a strong influence of the French institution on the Brazilian one, but there is a significant aspect of the Brazilian culture that modifies the organization of the Brazilian school in the 19th century, which is the State-Church relationship, giving the group of employees and the teaching subjects a particular characterization.
