THE TEXTBOOK AS SCHOOL CULTURE'S EVIDENCE

Abstract

This article discusses the possibilities of using the textbook as a source for research on school culture. For this, it discusses the notions of textbook, school culture and material culture. It examines several examples of textbooks from France, Spain, Argentina and Brazil, addressing constituent topics of school culture as content of school subjects, exercises and activities, examination, ideologies, moral and civility values, school routine, aesthetic sensibilities, school supplies and organization of teaching practices.
