There’s no flowers when women´s rights are disrespected: Purple Hibiscus, by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie

ABSTRACT

The book’s space is Niger and its many coup d´État in that we notice colonization consequences in habits and, mainly, religion. Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie shows to the reader, through Kambili, the domestic violence from the hard and constant episodes until the end, when the father is murdered by the mother. Purple Hibiscus is a historical fiction that shows the political situation, repression and different families in Niger. Richness and violence in Kambili’s family and free thinking and discussions in Amaka’s family are some of the topics discussed in this paper.
