Xyridaceae in Serra do Cabral, Minas Gerais State, Brazil

ABSTRACT

Xyridaceae is composed of five genera and nearly 400 species. This family is widely found in the tropics, mainly in the neotropics, and only Xyris is widespread throughout the temperate Americas, Asia, and Australia. This work was aimed at knowing the diversity of species of Xyridaceae in Serra do Cabral as well as enhancing our knowledge on the Brazilian flora. The studied area is in the north-central of Minas Gerais State, Brazil, focused on the municipalities of Augusto de Lima, Buenópolis, Joaquim Felício, Francisco Dumont, and Lassance. The inventory of the Xyridaceae from Serra do Cabral revealed the occurrence of two genera: Abolboda and Xyris. Abolboda is represented by two species and Xyris is represented by 32 species and two varieties. Among the contributions to the knowledge of Xyridaceae, the present study extends the data of occurrence of X. pirapamae Wand. & J. Guedes and X. stenocephalaMalme.
