The body and training for physical education teachers

This paper results from a study in which the aim was to investigate whether and in which way issues relating to the body are dealt with nowadays by university-level physical education teachers within a teacher training course. Interviews and document analysis were used as the data gathering techniques. The results showed that matters relating to body esthetics were partially considered within the physical education teacher training. There were differences in the genesis of the approach and in the theoretical framework used. It is concluded that these approaches represent an advance in physical education teacher training, but that they could be used more systematically, since they are directly linked with teachers' professional practice.
