Abilities and skills among Family Health Strategy workers

Interdisciplinary work developed within the scope of the Family Health Strategy, in the municipality of Fortaleza, Brazil, was investigated with the aim of understanding healthcare workers' perceptions regarding the positions held by different professional groups within this proposal for primary healthcare. The study was based on a qualitative approach, using the technique of in-depth interviews. Eighteen interviews were conducted with doctors, nurses and community health workers. The analysis on the empirical material followed the procedures of thematic analysis. The results made it possible to identify the existence of different degrees of familiarity among the workers, regarding professional abilities and skills. The cognitive, procedural and attitudinal dimensions were highlighted to a greater or lesser extent, thus showing the place occupied by each of the categories and the vertical relationships established as a function of control over professional knowledge and action.
