A CRITICAL DISCURSIVE ANALYSIS ON THE REPRESENTATION OF WOMEN AND ABORTION IN REVISTA AZMINA

Abstract

In this paper we investigate the discursive representations of abortion and women who had abortions within the journalistic practice. Among the various facets of the subject, in this paper we will discuss the legal or decriminalized practice in Brazil. For this, we selected seven texts from Revista AzMina. We undertook a theoretical-methodological analysis based on Critical Discourse Analysis (CDA) (FAIRCLOUGH, 2001, 2003, 2013). The results show that abortion is represented as a field of legal dispute, it is sometimes legal, sometimes illegal and completely depends on decisions that go beyond those that women themselves can make. AzMina’s reports aim either to provide guidance on rights, or to humanize the theme by presenting it from the voices of women involved in this practice.
