The Bolsa Família Program evaluation

Abstract:

The UN has set development goals and targets for its member states. Brazil has committed itself to these goals, including the fight against poverty and hunger. In 2004, the country created the Bolsa Família Program (PBF), a direct income transfer program for beneficiaries. This article evaluates the PBF through the Gini Index, Theil Index and the HDI of the Brazilian states, portraying the success of the PBF, which allowed, from 1990 to 2013, more than 20 million people to leave the poverty situation in Brazil.
