The research described in this article aims to examine how information technology (IT) has been applied in supply chain management (SCM) in the city of São Luís, Maranhão. Results indicate which technologies are most used and which are not widely applied, as well as benefits and barriers to this adoption. It reveals a scenario of opportunities for the effective use of IT, which could contribute to local development, through the changing reality of its suppliers.
