Conflicts in the management of the National Park Serra da Bocaina: obstacles to local development in the village of Trindade (Paraty, Rio de Janeiro)

This paper aims to highlight socio-environmental conflicts triggered in the management of the National Park Serra da Bocaina at Trindade's Village. It focuses upon the contradictions present between the different views of development implicitly drawn upon during the management process. The research contributes to ongoing debates on old and new approaches to development, focusing upon the management of protected areas. Based on an analysis of this experience, the paper concludes on the need to better the integration between society and nature, as well as, promote a decentralization of management at these areas.
